p1010010         If you like to walk, you’ll enjoy the Petaluma Quilt Show on Saturday, August 8.  Visitors to the annual downtown quilt show can begin their walking tour at the Petaluma Historical Museum at 4th & B Streets. Quilts will be on display indoors at the museum, and outdoors in the garden court. From the museum, walk to the Petaluma Woman’s Club at 5th & B to see quilts and needlework displays, and perhaps purchase a snack or refreshment.
Across the street from the woman’s club, still at 5th & B, visit the Open Door Church to admire quilts. Proceed to two more churches — St. John’s Episcopal at 5th & C, and United Methodist at 5th & D — to view quilts, and then on to Walnut Park at 4th & D to peruse the craft faire and farmer’s market, and listen to live music. Complete the loop by walking up 4th Street from the park to the museum to behold the outdoor display of quilts along the sidewalks.
Additional quilts will be on display indoors at the Petaluma Arts Center at 230 Lakeville Street. Fiber artist Carol Larson will present a slideshow lecture at 2 pm about her “Tall Girl Series” of quilts. The arts center, at 230 Lakeville Street (corner of E. Washington) is within walking distance of downtown, but there is also a parking lot for those who are too tired to hoof it.
A reader and quilt enthusiast named Becky Schuerman Choi contacted me regarding a new program called iWALKSonoma.  She said, “Sonoma County launched the iWALK initiative in May, and I am a member of the iWALK Petaluma coordinating team.  iWALK hopes to encourage people to walk more through walking groups, special events that involve walking, and trying to encourage people to walk regularly for their health and well-being.  We have a website – www.iwalksonoma.org – on which anyone can post walking events.”
Becky invited me to post the Petaluma Quilt Show on the calender on the iWALKSonoma website, which I did.  So get out your walking shoes for a fun day downtown on August 8!
